Artist, Kelly-Anna injects colour into an otherwise grey and cloudy day in London, as she takes us on a tour of her home in North London – a space she and her fiancé have worked on renovating and decorating over the course of the pandemic.
We sit in the dining area, adorned with treasures and trinkets from some of Kelly’s favourite designers and some antiques found at vintage stores and markets in her hometown of Suffolk. Beside the front door, an abstract print in Kelly’s signature strong, bold silhouetted form – a personal print created in amidst the pandemic, whilst she was pregnant with her son, Noah.

How would you describe your work in three words?
KA: Bold. Strong. Empowering.
What does a typical working day look like for Kelly-Anna?
KA: The pandemic has really shifted everything. We moved into our new home which we renovated and re-decorated over the lockdown in London. I’m also now a mum, so my day starts a lot earlier than it used to. Most days I drop Noah at nursery and then head over to my studio in East London. At some point in almost every project, I like to physically paint or draw parts of a design. I’m not sure it’s necessary, but it’s the way I like to work.
What would you say is your main source of inspiration?
KA: From the past, I’ve always looked at artists such as Fernand Léger and Mattisse and I’ve always been fascinated by the works on Greek pottery. I get a lot of inspiration from my friends. I have a great group of friends who are all incredible artists from Hattie Stewart, Alice Hartley, Alec Doherty, I could go on. I really value surrounding myself with inspiring and uplifting people and they are all just that.

What’s been your favourite project or collaboration to work on so far?
KA: I’ve worked with so many great brands, but I really enjoyed my recent collaboration with Nike. My 15 year old self would not have believed it when I say that Justin Timberlake, my teenage crush, was pictured head-to-toe in the collaboration!

Over the years, what’s one of the biggest challenges that you’ve had to overcome in your career?
KA: Breaking through initially was tough going. There’s so much competition to be noticed, I almost threw in the towel on more than a few occasions, but I stuck at it and the hard work and late nights paid off.
I’d definitely say to any aspiring artists out there to just be stupidly confident!

Lastly, do you have any exciting projects coming up that we should keep an eye out for?
KA: I’m currently working on launching some products for Christmas. I have a really exciting release coming in 2022. I can’t say much just yet, but keep an eye out on my social media for some hints coming soon…
Kelly-Anna wears all shoes from the Dear Frances vegan collection, available here.
